Discover why Dubrovnik is also called the "Pearl of the Adriatic” and enjoy the mild Mediterranean climate. Since the Middle Ages Dubrovnik, that was called Ragusa until 1918, is considered as a city of superlatives. In spite of repeated destruction, the city with itsnumerous palaces and monasteries has over the centuries preserved
the character of a Renaissance town. The old town is since 1979 part of the UNESCO World Heritage. The exploring of the area enclosed by an imposing defensive wall - the old town will be a journey through the history of Dubrovnik, that dates back to the early Middle ages and beyond. A first overview lends itself during a tour on the about two kilometres long city wall, which is amplified by two forts and several bastions and towers. At your feet, then spread on the rocky headland with the majestic sights, each of which tells its own story.
On your tour, you should definitely visit the Franciscan Monastery with the beautiful cloister and a small pharmacy. The pharmacy has been open since 1317 and is the oldest of its kind in Europe. Also worth seeing are the former Rector’s Palace with its magnificent loggia, the Dominican monastery and the Jesuit Church. Dubrovnik also has many smallattractions to offer, such as the octagonal Onofrio’s Fountain, or Orlando’s Column.
